Horror Conventions are events dedicated to the horror genre, and are perfect for fans of the gruesome, gory and ghastly. After the rising popularity of comic conventions over recent years, horror conventions are now beginning to gain a similar following, with a whole range of nerve-racking and blood-curdling events throughout the year. Some conventions are centred around horror as a whole, while others may focus more specifically on one aspect of the genre, such as zombies, UFOs or the supernatural.

Most conventions focus on horror cinema and goth lifestyle, but this is sometimes broadened to include other aspects of horror, including literature, art, music, special effects, costume, make-up and more. Horror conventions typically include film screenings of new, old, cult, independent and classic horror movies and relevant discussions. Other events may include panels, chats, parties, costume competitions, question and answer sessions, performances, demonstrations, vendors and games. Commonly, there are also insightful and informative classes for those who may be interested in making their own movies, artworks or books.

All of these conventions include a range of memorabilia to buy, which may encompass clothes, media, artwork, souvenirs, props, toys, masks, foods and plenty more spine-tingling treats. So those who love the dark side of life don’t need to wait until Halloween to get their scares!

Horror conventions are almost always attended by many special scary guests. These fiends and freaks may include authors, actors, artists, performers, directors and screenwriters; and occasionally mystics, psychics, mediums and paranormal experts. These guests usually hold discussions, offer autographs, attend question and answer sessions and delight with their tales of morbidity, macabre and murder!

Occasionally at horror conventions, there are also events and exhibitions centred around the genres of science fiction and fantasy, though only those which have a spooky, shocking or frightening twist.

Ticket prices for horror conventions can range widely, from free admission to around $50 for daily admission. These ticket prices usually reflect how well-established the events are, and higher quality events are usually more expensive. Most horror conventions are annual, have a duration of around two days and are held in hotels or convention centres. Usually, a horror convention will run from around 10am to 6pm, but special spooky events may happen late at night or early in the morning… when the ghosts and ghouls really come out to play.

All in all, horror conventions are a great place to get spooked, have fun, meet fellow phantoms and enjoy a shocking time!
