A comic con, short for comic book convention, is a an event that focuses on comic books. These events are typically held in convention centers, hotels, or space large enough for a group of fans to meet. Cities usually have about one comic con each year and major metropolitan areas can host several a year. Most comic cons typically last three days, but some cons that have grown substantially, are now adding a fourth day. They usually start at about 10am and end roughly at 7pm, but some events go on late into the night.
Fans at these conventions get to meet with comic book writers, artists, actors, and voice actors. Over the years, comic cons have grown into celebrations of pop culture and now include anime, sci-fi, gaming and horror. Because of this, it’s now fairly common to see famous people from movies, TV, wrestling, sports or even YouTube, at a comic con! One of the most enjoyable experiences at a comic con is the wide variety of attending fans who choose to cosplay as their favorite characters. And if you are in a shopping mood, there are exhibitors selling a wide range of unique merchandise on just about everything imaginable. As well as artists in artist alley, selling one of a kind artwork.
Another aspect to a comic con is the wide variety of panels fans are able to attend. Panels include things such as how to get into the comic industry, tips on cosplay poses, fandom discussions, and much more. Comic cons with an emphasis to gaming can host several tournaments in table-top gaming, board games, collectible cards, and of course video games. If you are interested in going, prices usually range between $20 and $45 a day. Fridays are usually the least busiest day but a lot of celebrities aren’t available for pictures and autographs. The best day to go is Saturday but expect long lines.
