AnimeFest, founded in 1992 and formerly owned by Robert Jenks before becoming a non-profit organization, was formed in a time when anime was a scarcely known concept to the American people. Over 25 years they have brought animation, art, music, crafting, cosplay, traditional and pop culture to the Dallas Area. This fall AnimeFest triumphantly returns to Texas, Dallas for its 25th anniversary!
AnimeFest is a multi-faceted convention, with events aimed at all aspects of fandom. Guests will be hosting discussion panels, Q&A sessions, Live art demonstrations, drawing lessons, and much more. Card, Board, and RPG gaming sessions will be held, as well as a dedicated arcade and LAN party section! For master tacticians, looking for a new twist on an old classic, ‘Cosplay Chess’ is the perfect opportunity to pit your anime and manga dream teams against one another, in grueling, strategic, combat.
Guests this year include talented artist Kubo Mitsuro, who worked on Yuri!!! On Ice, Moteki, and Again!!! Director Sayo Yamamoto, responsible for Lupin III, Endless Night, and the opening/closing storyboards to Samurai Shamploo, Attack on Titan, Space Dandy, and much more, will be making his second appearance. Scriptwriter Dai Sato of Cowboy Bebop, Shamploo, GITS: SAC, Ego Proxy, Space Dandy, and more, is arriving in Animefest for the first time, as is French animator and designer Christophe Ferreira!
The AnimeFest Art Show is an exhibition and sale of fan and professional art primarily showcasing the Japanese Anime and manga style. However, each year there are many entries which focus on traditional art forms and subjects, making this art show incredibly diverse. This show also includes mixed media, textiles, jewelry, and 3D art. Whether you are looking to finish a collection, or to find that perfect piece for your wall, this art show promises to deliver you the solution you seek.
Multiple dance parties will be held throughout the event, promising eclectic music to keep your heart pumping and body swaying as live DJs spin throughout the night. Those looking for a bit more of a relaxed dance atmosphere are encouraged to attend in the Semi-Formal Ball, which offers an excellent way to spend your evening with a loved one, friend, or significant other. Throughout the convention, live music will be presented at various stages, for all to enjoy.
No anime festival would be complete without cosplay! This year, the cosplay competition will be returning, allowing cosplayers the opportunity to win great prizes and merchandise, as well as show off their talents and skills in front of a live audience! An area has been dedicated for group photo ops as well, which also doubles as a great place to meet other cosplayers, learn tricks of the trade, and find new inspirations!
Over 150 vendors and exhibitors have been confirmed to the event, and will be stationed in both the Bizarre Bazaar (the marketplace for artists, clubs, and convention promotion) and the Dealers’ Room (For vendors of anime, Pocky, gaming, clothing and more.) In both these areas, you will find exclusive, genuine, unique, and original art and merchandise, as well as information on upcoming conventions, local groups, and more.
AnimeFest Promises to be a weekend full of excitement, opportunity, adventure, cosplay, and of course anime screenings! It is a family friendly event, and those of all ages are welcome to attend and participate. If you find yourself in Dallas this fall, be sure to check it out!
